Who are Celtic?

Celtic is a Scottish professional football team founded in 1887 based in Glasgow; they play in the Scottish Premiership.

They played their first game in May 1888, against Rangers, which Celtic won 5–2. Celtic established themselves as the best club in Scottish football.

Celtic are one of only five teams in the world to have won over 100 titles in their history. The club have won the Scottish Premiership trophy 51 times, most recently in 2019–20, the Scottish Cup 40 times and the Scottish League Cup 19 times. The club’s best season was 1966–67 when they became the first British club to win the European Cup, win the Scottish league championship, the League Cup, Glasgow Cup and Scottish Cup. Celtic also played the 1970 European Cup Final and the 2003 UEFA Cup Final; however, they failed to win either of them.

Scottish giants have a long-standing fierce rivalry with Rangers, known as the Old Firm, seen by some as the world’s biggest football derby.

Celtic play their home games at Celtic Park, which is in the Parkhead area of Glasgow. It is an all-seater stadium with a capacity of 60,411; the Bhoys Stadium is the largest in Scotland and the eighth-largest in the UK, after Murrayfield, Old Trafford, Twickenham, Wembley, the London Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the Millennium Stadium.

What are the plans for Celtic in the 2021/22 season?

Last season Celtic finished second in the Scottish Premiership table letting their bitter rivals Rangers claim the title, which ended the Bhoys nine-year streak.

Ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, Celtic will be fighting for the no.1 spot in the Scottish Premiership, however, they need to strengthen their squad in order to compete with Rangers to claim the title.

Liam Shaw has joined Sheffield Wednesday after he becomes a free agent, Joey Dawson and Osaze Urhoghide also joined them for free, while Scott Brown, Amstrong and Jack Hendry departed from the club.
