Last season, after an incredibly difficult few campaigns, Rangers finally managed to lift the Scottish Premiership trophy again.

Celtic were close to claiming an unprecedented 10th division title in a row, but Steven Gerrard’s men have been able to stop the arch-rivals much to the delight of their fans.

The Gers have improved the squad to make sure that they can do it again, despite not being financially powerful due to the ongoing global pandemic.

We take a look at players for whom the Ibrox outfit have spent some significant sums on over the years.

10. Ronald De Boer

The Dutchman sealed a move from the La Liga giants Barcelona back in 2000 for a sum of £4.5 million.

Since retiring he has moved into coaching. At this moment, he’s working in a prominent role with Ajax U19s.

9. Arthur Numan

Another Dutch player who joined the club from the Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven back in 1998 for a rumoured fee of £4.5 million.

After a brief stint in management, Arthur is now working with Rood-witten’s league rivals AZ Alkmaar where Numan currently works as a scout.

8. Barry Ferguson

A bit closer to home, the former Gers skipper Barry Ferguson completed a big-money transfer back to the Ibrox side after leaving Blackburn Rovers in 2005.

His £4.5m sum seems completely different from his last known role being as head coach of non-league side Kelty Hearts.

7. Bert Konterman

The centre-back also cost £4.5 million transfer fee when he purchased from Feyenoord in the summer of 2000.

He has since moved into management and is currently an interim coach at the Dutch side PEC Zwolle.

6. Andrei Kanchelskis

The Russian cost £5.5 million when Andrei arrived from the Serie A outfit Fiorentina back in 1998.

Since retiring the tricky attacker has moved into management and was most currently plying his trade in Uzbekistan.

5. Giovanni van Bronckhorst

He also cost £5.5 million when he arrived from the same club as Kanchelskis in the same year.

Giovanni has since moved into management and was most recently spotted in China with Guangzhou R&F.

4. Mikel Arteta

Rangers signed the Spanish midfielder in a deal worth £6 million from the Spanish outfit Barcelona in 2002.

Since then he has been assistant to his fellow countryman Pep Guardiola at Manchester City before becoming head coach of Arsenal.

3. Ryan Kent

The only person on this list who is still plying his trade under Liverpool icon at Rangers.

He cost £6.5 million when he arrived from the Reds back in September 2019.

2. Michael Ball

The Gers purchased the defender for a reported £6.5 fee when he arrived at the club from Everton at the beginning of his century.

1. Tore Andre Flo

In 2000, the Norwegian forward sealed his £12 million move from Chelsea.

Since retiring Tore has established a youth academy to try and help youngsters who aspire to become professional footballers.
