Rangers name gets dropped into many transfer rumours, usually when agents are trying to get a transfer fee increase and earn themselves a bigger payday in the process.

One recent rumour, though, was more about the former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard connection with the centre-back Gary Cahill said to be under consideration by the Light Blues recruitment team.

The Experienced English defender has 61 caps, as per transfermarkt to his name so coping with the demands of Scottish football is unlikely to be an issue, with BBC pundit Danny Mills reports that he would be a “top-quality addition” as told to Football Insider:

“He looks after himself, keeps himself fit. He’s solid, reliable and very, very experienced.

“He’s a good professional, and I think that would be a top-quality signing. He’s a player who’s been there, done it and won it all.

“It’s a great opportunity for other players to learn from him in training and in matches. They can learn from the way he conducts himself and all those types of things.

“We all know that the standard of the Scottish Premiership is not the greatest in the world, so in terms of quality, it’s not a problem.

“It’s also what else he brings; that’s what’s really important.”

Former Chelsea and Crystal Palace defender would surely only have been a target had Connor Goldson not extended his deal; however, that now appears to be sorted, with Leon Balogun and Filip Helander already at the team, the need for a fourth centre-back of even greater experience just isn’t required – after all, the ones that are there broke every record going last campaign, and the manager can trust them to get the job done.
