Rangers tipped to replace Alfredo Morelos with a proven European forward if he departs from the club, according to former Aston Villa and England forward Gabby Agbonlahor,

The Gers head coach Steven Gerrard told Sky Sports on 26 July he found the constant rumours surrounding the future of Colombian’s future as “tiresome”.

It is believed that Rangers have slapped a £13million asking price for their star forward who has only two years left before his contract expires.

“This happens to every club and every player,” said Agbonlahor

“Especially when you’re a star player and you’re coming to the last couple of years of your contract, it’s going to happen.

“I’m sure Gerrard will not want to lose him but he will understand if the club accept a fee from a different team.

“He just wants to know before the window closes so he’s got the chance to bring in a replacement because Rangers can’t go into the season without another striker if they lose Morelos.

“Having [Fashion] Sakala there and scoring may ease it a little bit. But I’m sure Steven Gerrard will want to use some of the money raised to bring in another player.

“Scoring goals is the hardest thing for someone who’s not played in the league before, it’s a very tough league the Scottish league, you can’t underestimate it.

“With the Champions League too, you want someone with European experience.”

Sakala who has joined Ranger on July 1 from Belgian club KV Oostende scored his first goal in front of the Ibrox faithful earlier last weekend in the pre-season win over Spanish giants Real Madrid.

He could be set to play a vital role in the Scottish Premiership opener match against Livingstone this weekend as Morelos has not yet made a return to training with the first-team squad.

Recently Liverpool startlet Rhian Brewster has been rumoured with a switch to Rangers with the Merseyside Reds are believed to demanding around £23m fee for his signature.
